Eight months off work. Élodie came to Kaina “to check there was still someone left”.

“I'd been looked after. Nobody had helped me look at myself again.”

Her day

In four images

From arrival to portrait.

Every Kaina day follows the same movement: arriving, talking, letting yourself be photographed, and leaving with an image that stands as proof.

Before

Where it started

« Je n'arrivais plus à sortir avant midi. Ce n'était pas de la tristesse, c'était du vide. »

Élodie wrapped in a blanket, a cup in her hands, the beginning of a smile

10.50 am

The warmth coming back

« On m'a laissée me taire. C'est la première fois qu'on ne me demandait pas d'aller mieux. »

Élodie laughing and shaking her head at the lens, one hand raised

3.20 pm

“I can't do this”

« J'ai dit non trois fois. Et puis j'ai ri, et la photographe a déclenché. »

What she took home

« Je ne me trouve pas belle sur cette photo. Je me trouve vivante. C'est beaucoup mieux. »

Her story

Élodie, 38

In her own words.

Élodie was off work for eight months. It took her a long time to use the word burnout: “I said tiredness, I said a rough patch, I said anything but the real word”.

Her day was built as a Signature, with the explicit option of stopping everything at any moment. “That's what made it possible for me to come: knowing I could leave.”

The morning was slow. A lot of silences, a blanket, some tea. Nobody tried to make her talk. The photo session didn't begin until after 3 pm, and at first she refused.

“What got me was that nobody ever said ‘smile’. They said: stay there, breathe, we have time. Nobody had told me we had time in two years.”
